Osteopathic Medicine in London
Osteopathy is a holistic, manual diagnostic and treatment approach. The Osteopathic Association of Germany (Verband der Osteopathen Deutschland e.V., VOD) describes it as a "healing method executed by osteopathic practitioners who examine and treat patients with their hands".
At Lanserhof at The Arts Club in London, our osteopathic practitioners thoroughly asses your medical history in order to treat your pain and discomforts in a holistic manner. The osteopath then uses gentle but powerful grip techniques to detect and correct misalignments. This treatment can reduce or even eliminate pain.
Application Areas of Osteopathic Treatments
The aim of osteopathy is to detect and treat mobility dysfunctions. Osteopaths rely on the body’s ability to heal and regulate itself, as long as all structures are mobile and supplied with essential nutrients. Osteopathy views the body as a complex unit: Often enough, pain does not occur in its place of origin, but in areas that only compensate for other malfunctioning bodily structures.
Osteopathy: A Salutogenetic Concept on the Rise in Complementary Medicine
The method dates back to the 19th century: The American physician Andrew Taylor Still (1828-1917) closely studied the anatomy of the skeletal system and the various physical dysfunctions that can occur. He created the term "osteopathy", derived from the Greek of "ostéon" (bone) and "páthos" (pain). Later, Still discovered that not only bones but also fascia, the connective tissues between organs, muscles, tendons and ligaments, can trigger dysfunctions and cause pain. Here lies the biggest difference to chiropractic, as the osteopathic method focuses on the skeletal and nervous system.
Osteopathy is considered to be a salutogenetic concept. This means that osteopathy cannot only cure diseases, but it also promotes health. Today, osteopathy is widely recognised in complementary medicine. Thus, many statutory and private health insurance companies cover the costs of osteopathic treatments.
Osteopathic Treatments at Lanserhof at The Arts Club
The costs of an osteopathic treatment are based on the physician fee schedule and statutory regulations, but are covered by most private health insurance companies. We also treat patients with statutory health insurance as self-payers.
